🗣️ Dr. Saeid Saidi (Associate Professor, University of Calgary, Canada)
🗓 Friday, October 17, 2025
🕒 15:00h (3pm)
📍 Room B1-005, Civil Engineering School, North Campus – UPC BarcelonaTech(Jordi Girona 1-3, Plaça Camins, Campus Nord UPC – 08034 Barcelona)
🔹 What is the seminar about?
Designing efficient and sustainable transit systems is one of the biggest challenges for modern cities. In this seminar, Dr. Saidi will introduce a two-stage optimization approach for the bi-modal express transit network design problem. His research explores:
- Optimal locations for new stations.
- Mathematical programming for express route layouts and service planning.
- Applications of Genetic Algorithms to large-scale urban networks (case study: Calgary, Canada).
- Addressing network topology, demand patterns, and multimodality for future-ready transit.
🔹 About the speaker
Dr. Saeid Saidi is Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary. He was Postdoctoral Associate at MIT’s Institute for Data, Systems and Society and a member of the MIT Transit Lab. His research focuses on:
- Transportation network modelling.
- Public transit planning and operation.
- Big data analytics using mobility sensing.
Dr. Saidi has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers, served as Vice Chair of CUTRIC’s Academic Committee for Transit Innovation, and was part of the Transportation Research Board (Rail Transit Systems Committee) for nine years.
If you’re passionate about urban mobility, transit optimization, and the role of data-driven design in shaping future cities, this is a seminar you won’t want to miss.
